Tequisquiapan and Bernal, both located in Querétaro state, are two of Mexico’s cutest and most visit-worthy pueblos mágicos (magic towns). If, like me, you’re a Mexico nerd and know that there are over 100 pueblos mágicos spread across the length and breadth of the entire country, then you’ll also realise that claiming both Tequis and Bernal as two of the best is a pretty bold claim. How could it be that one state has two of the best magic towns in Mexico?! Well, let me break it down for ya – the convenience factor is high with them both, as they’re just a few hours out of Mexico City on the bus. So, if you love cheap and cheerful day trips that still get you home for bedtime, visiting either Bernal or Tequisquiapan (or both) is ideal. Both towns also have cool and quirky attractions (Tequis has a monument to the geographical centre of Mexico and Bernal has the amusingly named Peña de Bernal, the world’s tallest monolith). Still not convinced? Fine. Here’s a mini photo journal of Tequisquiapan and Peña de Bernal which should help convince you.
